Seamless Supply Chain Solutions to the Food Industry
Vector logistics is a specialist third-party logistics service provider (3pl) for the food and food-related industries within southern Africa across the retail, wholesale and food service sectors.
Vector's vehicle fleet includes a food industry first in 'multi-temperature' vehicles enabling the company to service business across frozen, chilled and ambient temperature zones on a single delivery.
History
- Vector Logistics origins lie within I&J (an AVI Limited Company) where it was positioned as a in-house distribution arm.
- I&J started to build a distribution business in earnest in the late 1950s when it began to get involved in the distribution of frozen vegetables.
- Up to that time I&J had developed an efficient network for the distribution of fresh fish into the hinterland. With the advent of frozen foods, the development of the distribution business was an obvious move.
- The growth of the distribution business was given significant impetus with the conclusion of a distribution arangement with Rainbow Chicken in 1966, although at this time this was limited to the Natal (KZN) area.
- Over time, the sales and distribution business of I&J underwent many changes. The division was relaunched in late 1999 to become the Customer Division. This was in line with the increasing focus on delivering to customer and principal supply chain management needs – an important step in growing from a traditional selling and distribution division to a true outsource service provider.
- In July 2001, AVI Limited relaunched its distribution business as an entirely separate company. In 2002 it was renamed Vector Logistics.
- Vector Logistics (Pty) Ltd is now 100% owned by Rainbow Farms (Pty) Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Rainbow Chicken Limited.
- Vector Logistics (Pty) Ltd is the holding company of one operating subsidiary, Vector Logistics Limited, registered in Namibia.
