Graduate Program

Group Five supports newly graduated students to achieve professional registration with authorised bodies such as the Engineering Council of South Africa. This is voluntary and is done under the umbrella of The Academy with the support and assistance of senior management in the business unit as well as external mentors. The programme was introduced in 2008 and is proving to be very successful.

Bursaries

Group Five provides bursaries to students to encourage the development of industry skills and expertise and to create a valuable pipeline of new skills into the group. Bursaries are provided both at Universities as well as Universities of Technology in the following:

• B Sc. Civil Engineering

• B Sc. Construction Management

• B Sc. Quantity Surveying

• B Sc. Mechanical Engineering

• B.Tech. Civil

• B. Tech. Quantity Surveying

• National Diploma in Construction and related disciplines 

Bursary students are jointly recruited via The Academy and the respective business units. Workplace exposure and activities such as Boot Camp and Summer School are arranged to introduce students to the industry and more specifically to Group Five. Placement on site during vacation periods is also part of the learning experience.

Born from the realization that the rapid growth in the construction sector would require commensurate operational capacity and business savvy to best position the group to take advantage of bigger and more complex projects, The Group Five Academy was launched in August 2006. To ensure an integrated approach to human capital development, this in-house corporate university, The Group Five Academy, was established to provide learning and development opportunities to all employees in the group across all business units.
