GRADUATE 2 Years, 7 Months ago
Below is an email we received from a recent grad -
Our reply is posted next. If you have any other suggestions for him, PLEASE POST THEM

My name is Sbongile Koruakae Mokomane, I graduated in 2005 and my major courses were Media Studies and Applied English. Currently I have enrolled with UNISA for a

Programme in public finance and Economics. I am working full time as a clerk at NHLS.

I have applied for several media companies looking for either internship or a job but they keep on telling me that I don’t have practical experience. I am equipped with a theoretical knowledge that could

Take me from one step to another. I am begging to loose hope because I don’t get what I want. I don’t know what to do anymore. My intention was to work

For media industry and further my studies. I wanted to do honors but I don’t see a point any more. I even consider enrolling for BCOM next year. I am a lost goat.

Can any one give me an advice on what to do?

Regards

Sbongile

Hi Sibongile,

I am glad you contacted gradzone!

Congratulations on your graduation and current job!

Something to remember whenever you are looking for answers to anything - like what to study, where to find work or where to live - is that “if you seek you will find\".
It\'s the seeking that often gets us - we tend to get discouraged and impatient at times.
Attitude, however, is everything as I was once told.
So remember: The only time you have lost is when you give up trying.

The best thing to do is to continue doing what you\'re doing – network and ask everyone you meet who could help you. As with all searches, it is just a numbers game. In other words the more you search for your answer, the more likely you are to find it. It\'s kind of fun once you get going because often you\'ll find what you\'re looking for in the most unlikely of places.
And don’t consider changing track unless it is absolutely necessary. Follow your passion and if media is that passion, then stick with it. A short term fix now may lead to irreversible long term regrets.

When looking for internship opportunities - on the one hand, in the current economic climate it is even harder to find companies willing to offer internships than it would normally have been, and on the other hand companies always want experience which is hard when all you want to do is get experience!

There will still be companies who will offer you an internship - you just need to find them.

I would recommend that you check out the following websites for opportunities on a regular basis -
www.bizcommunity.com www.careerjunction.co.za www.keyrecruitment.co.za www.gumtree.co.za
You can also try the following:

Your university\'s career office - visit them online or go in and see them in person
Research all the big role players in the media industry and target them specifically for an internship. You can do this by using Google to search for companies or looking at the company listing on a website like bizcommunity or similar. Show them why they MUST have you. For example, a friend of mine created an ad campaign advertising herself for an e-marketing agency she wanted an internship for. They didn\'t have any vacancies but their words to her where \"How can we not employ you?\" She temp-ed there for a while and now in June she starts a paid internship. She searched for the company she wanted, and then told them very clearly why they had to have her!
If possible, you could even offer to work for the company you really, really, really want a job with for free. Just to get a foot in the door.

Runescape Money 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Night after night, RS Gold she came to tuck me in, RS Gold even long after my childhood years. Following her longstanding custom, she'd lean down and push my long hair out of the way, then kiss my forehead. Runescape Money i don't remember when it first started annoying me — her hands pushing my hair that way.
