About Us
Eversheds is one of the major full-service law firms in South Africa. The firm aims to be a great place to work, which was recognised when it was voted No 1 Law firm to work for by Magnet Graduate Survey in 2008 and received a Best Employer accreditation from CRF in 2009. We were also recently awarded a Top Women in Business and Government certificate in recognition of the firm’s achievement and commitment to the promotion of workplace equality for women.
The firm is actively involved in the community and contributes time and resources to the Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children. In addition, we provide pro bono legal services to various individuals and organisations.
Our vision
To be a great place to work and the most client centred international law firm.
Our values
The firm has a number of core values, promoted widely within our business, including teamwork, mutual respect, accountability, continuous improvement, being client centred and straightforward.
Our aim is to be the pre-eminent practice for clients and staff who identify with our non-negotiable values of decency, generosity of spirit, accountability and commitment to world class legal service.
Diversity and BEE
The firm is committed to fair and non-discriminatory employment policies. We subscribe to a policy of employment equity and empowerment, taking cognisance of the diversity existing in the broader society, which is based on equal dignity and respect of all people.
We are committed to pursue empowerment strategies that will ensure that the firm’s ownership and staff are representative of South Africa’s demographics. The transformation process is well underway and will continue to receive the priority it deserves. Empowerdex has compiled the firm’s broad based black economic empowerment rating and will continue to assess the firm’s performance.
Graduate Recruitment
Vacation programmes
|
Our vacation work programmes for third year law students run every year in January and July and give you exposure to the workings of a law firm. At the end of the two week programme all students are interviewed with the objective of recruiting some of them as candidate attorneys. |
Who should apply as candidate attorneys?
We’re looking for talented, motivated people who’ll embrace our vision and values and add something to our business. We’ve created a workplace in which the right people flourish: an exhilarating environment in which responsibility is given early, but always with the support of the people around you when you need it.
In-house studies at the Eversheds Law School
|
All candidate attorneys have to attend practical legal training courses approved by the law society for the purposes of admission as an attorney. We understand the demands candidate attorneys face and offer this training in-house at our offices in Sandton, Johannesburg. The law school is open for external applications in October each year. |
Future prospects
Prospects for advancement are excellent and rewards are commensurate with performance. Once you have successfully completed your articles to our satisfaction, you may be offered a position as a junior associate subject to your performance and to availability. This will make you eligible for the incentive bonus offered to all our recently admitted professionals, rewarding them for their dedication and contributions to the firm. The incentive bonus is in addition to the professional’s monthly remuneration package.
Associate Achiever Programme
Each year the associate, who is selected as the best all-round achiever, will participate in an international experience to develop their skills at the firm's cost. The recipient of the achiever award will attend an international short term legal or leadership course or visit one of Eversheds’ 45 international law offices.
