ABOUT US Blue Continent Products (Pty) Ltd ("BCP") is based in Cape Town, the heart of South Africa's major fishing industries and the main port of the bulk of the country's fishing exports. Operations in Africa are present in Cape Town, Hout Bay, Port Elizabeth, Walvis Bay. The organisation is a subsidiary division of the Oceana Group Limited, which was incorporated in 1918. Its shares are listed on the securities exchange operated by JSE Limited (the JSE) and the Namibian Stock Exchange (NSX). Principal shareholders are Tiger Brands Limited, Brimstone Investment Corporation Limited and the Khula Trust (Oceana's black employee share trust). Oceana employs 1 351 permanent staff and 669 (full time equivalent) seasonal employees, fluctuating during periods of seasonal fishing activities. The Group’s mission statement is: “To be the leading fishing and commercial cold storage company in Africa”. The key Group objectives are: economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Furthermore Oceana subscribes to a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, with compliance being mandatory for all employees. This shows Oceana’s commitment to conducting business in a fair, honest, and legal way. In addition to the Code, a Fraud Policy was issued in 2003, where employees can utilize the anonymous whistle-blower facility to enable the matter to be investigated. Each subsidiary division of the Oceana Group is involved in their individual areas of operation. BCP’s areas of operation are midwater and deep-sea fishing. MIDWATER FISHING South African Operations In South Africa, we harvest, process, and distribute in excess of 60% of the total South African Horse Mackerel Quota in partnership with various quota holders. This is accomplished with the use of its R77 Million trawler mfv "Desert Diamond", a major first time initiative in the South African fishing industry. A large percentage of the horse mackerel is exported to Africa. The company is committed to the development of the local market and is researching value added opportunities with a view to further job creation. Namibian Operations The Namibian operations, Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, are centred in Walvis Bay, a hub of the Southern African fishing industry. Here, selected joint ventures with key empowerment partners, afford us access to sustainable quotas plus a wealth of local expertise. The Namibian operation harvests, processes, and distributes more than 80,000 tons of Horse Mackerel and fishmeal per annum. Approximately 50% of this tonnage is landed in the port of Walvis Bay and sold into various SADC countries. The balance is primarily trans-shipped to reefer transport for sale to countries in Central and West Africa.
