About Us
Anglo Platinum Limited is the world’s leading primary producer of platinum group metals (PGMs) and accounts for about 40% of the world’s newly mined platinum. To illustrate the magnitude of our organisation; in the 12 month period ending December 2008 the firm produced 2,39 million ounces platinum. Furthermore, in that period we earned R13 292 million. The Company is listed on the JSE Limited. We delisted our secondary listing from the London Stock Exchange during 2009. Anglo American owns 76,5% of Anglo Platinum.
The Group’s mining operations were restructured in 2009. The smelting and refining operations are wholly owned through Rustenburg Platinum Mines Limited and are situated in South Africa. These operations treat concentrates not only from the Group’s wholly owned operations, but also from its joint ventures and third parties.
 In total the operations comprise of 11 mines, 6 joint ventures, 20 concentrators, 3 smelters, a base metals refinery and a precious metals refinery.
Elsewhere in the world, the Group is developing the Unki Platinum Mine in Zimbabwe and is actively exploring in Brazil. It has exploration partners in Canada, Russia and China.

Main Products and Nature of Market Served
 Apart from producing platinum, the PGMs produced are: palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium. Nickel, copper and other base metal products are byproducts of PGM operations.
The Group is firmly committed to the development of PGM markets and in co-operation with Johnson Matthey and others, researches and promotes new products using PGMs.
Anglo Platinum created the Platinum Guild International (PGI) in 1975 and provides funding for its jewellery development efforts. The Group is active in other industry organisations, including the International Platinum Association, which is an advocacy forum for producers and fabricators.
Some 43% of the world’s platinum is used in autocatalysts, designed to reduce noxious emissions from vehicles. Demand for autocatalysts declined by 8,5% in 2008: environmental concerns about air quality in many of the world’s cities continued to increase and more stringent vehicle emission standards were legislated in many countries.
The Group is firmly committed to the development of PGM markets and, in co-operation with Johnson Matthey and others, who research and promote new products using PGMs, particularly for environmental applications. Anglo Platinum created the Platinum Guild International (PGI) in 1975 and provides funding for its jewellery development efforts. The Group is active in other industry organisations, including the International Platinum Association, which is an advocacy forum for producers and fabricators, and attends to sustainability-related matters on behalf of the industry via its newly created (2008) sustainability committee.
