![]() A day in the life of.... ![]() Pearl Piliso HR and Office Admin Intern Age: 20 Based in:Alexandra,JHB Why do you do this job? - The reason why I do this job is because it’s what I want to focus on in terms of my career and it’s my passion to part of HR. What training did I receive? -How to answer a phone and handle difficult situations -How to use a fax machine -How to use a photocopier - How to develop a CV -How to create a filing index and file and retrieve documents What happens from 9 to 5 ? I get to the office and my mind is already in the work mode, I prepare myself for the day ahead, I switch my laptop on and check if there aren’t any emails. I make myself tea and carry on with my work for the day. I make sure that I do communicate with my co-workers and find out how their day is going so far. I make sure that I make myself available so that if there is help needed I and there to help them at any time. Before l leave work I make sure that my work for the day is done and I prepare work for tomorrow to make it easier for me to know what I need to the next day. What’s the upside? The upside of what I am doing and where I am is that I love and enjoy what I’m doing and I love the environment too. When you love what you do then it’s easier for you to learn new things every day. The most encouraging part about my job is when I hear a lot of “thank yours” from my co-workers, being noticed for being there and being appreciated for the job I’m doing id the highlight of my job. When someone tells me that I have made their day just pushes me to do even more and that makes me proud of myself knowing that I have put a smile on someone’s face. What’s the downside? I wouldn’t really say that there is any, but when I fall sick and my mind is telling me to do some work and my heart says no then it’s a problem because I do want to do something. Even if it’s something small that I have done but at least I know I have achieved something for that day. Who are my mentors or role models? My mum, my Aunt and Zama I will explain each of them because they each play a different role; my mum is the person who makes sure that I achieve a lot because she knows what's best for me. She would encourage me to do my best and don't let anything bring you down. I look up to her because she is a hard worker and knows what she wants. She always says I should always "look dress the part". My Aunt is someone who once said to me I should never leave what I can do today for another day, till to this day I apply it to my everyday life. She encourages me to always go for the best and never give up. I should always thank God for the opportunities that his given me, because without him I wouldn't be where I am today, she once said "God will place you where he knows will be the right place for you" and I thank her for that. When I walked into ARM building Zama gave me a smile and from there I felt relieved. Zama is a person who knows what she wants and she would tell me to go for what I know will help me grow. I look up to her because she makes sure that her priorities are met. She would make sure that you are comfortable with what you doing she would try to be at you level so that it would easy for me to understand. When you know that there is someone who is willing to support then you can be sure to be on the safe side that makes me smile every time I have to go to work, I thank her for that. She once said "never let myself to be bored".
