Why do you do this job? Other than studying for it, I like the challenges it brings with it as well as the rewards.
What training did you receive? A lot, there’s very little routine work in this field, what makes it very stimulating. Mostly I will be churning out code to make software work, work faster and work more efficient. It's an awesome company to work at - I wake up in the morning without the thought of "ah, not work again". Friendliness, easy going, logical thinker. Making users happy is very hard, but very rewarding when they are happy. My parents and my best friend. I get by, could get by with little more J
What will you do next?
Why do you do this job? I enjoy the world of new media, and social networking. I have a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Rhodes University, but most of my training has been on the job. I usually arrive at around 8am. When I get here I check new images on Albums, emails flagged for spam, Spaces’ messages from our users, attend to blog abuse reports, go through Answerit, attend to feedbacks, then emails, and finally make a post on ‘Inside Letterdash’ (our editorial blog). During the course of the day I’d go back and forth these tasks. It’s not so bad though because there is another Community Manager (Penny Marais). I come across some rather interesting characters. You have to enjoy interacting people, and be open to learning. Sometimes our users can get a bit impatient and rude with us. My immediate senior Alistair Fairweather is my mentor. He’s always pushing me to exceed my current limits. It’s great to have someone who believes in you like that. No… not really, but I’m hoping my bank balance will improve as I take on more challenging responsibilities. What will you do next?
