Why do you do this job? At University I came across many subjects that required a deeper understanding of complex theories, frameworks, models, methodologies etc. To gain a better understanding, I used storyboards - visuals - to transcribe these complex subjects into easily understood concepts. This of course helped me graduate and to share these concepts with my peers. At that time, Pétanque were recruiting honours students and I happened to see some of their work. I was amazed at how they used Visuals to deliver fit-for-purpose business solutions. Pétanque's solution offering consists of: strategy development, business planning, business analysis, business performance improvement and project management. Since then I have been applying various tools and techniques such as VizPro® and VizBizTM to improve enterprise operational performance. What training did you receive? B.Comm Management Degree B.Comm Honours Information Systems TenStep Project Management Diploma VizPro® Process Management Diploma Recruitment and Selection Diploma What happens 9-5? To say I have a 9-5 job would be an understatement. Each day changes and comes - head on - with new challenges and obstacles. In our company I deal with client solution delivery, marketing and sales initiatives, business development and recruitment and selection. My blog "The Job description of a knowledge worker" further elaborates on how professionals no longer have a clearly defined job description. Companies are now, more than ever, in constant morph mode with ever changing goals, products, partners, customers, markets, technology etc. These all, by necessity, shake up structures roles and responsibilities. Growth Tip: Ensure continual growth through getting as much exposure to many business areas/units. What's the upside? Working at Pétanque has opened a gateway to meet very senior and influential people. I always dreamed of sitting in board rooms with CEO's, COO's and CIO's, driving solution development. Pétanque has given me the platform to stimulate my intellectual muscles and to drive business excellence. What personality traits do you think you have that make you good at your job? Delivering business solutions requires creativity and imagination. I often see the delivery of our solutions as a theatrical play - where I play the role of an actor, the boardroom my stage - and the clients my audience. The ideal personality traits would include: creativity; confidence, enthusiasm, initiative, analytical, self-motivation, goal driven and entrepreneurial. What's the downside? It takes time to develop your craft and is as true as the saying: "A baby must crawl before they can walk!" I often spend more time in the air than on the ground...but at least I'm earning voyager miles! J Who are your role models or mentors? The people who have made a huge impact in my life include: - Henry and Pamela Siljeur who taught me that it's not how much you earn but how much you keep. - Robert Kiyosaki who taught me the principles of wealth - "it's not a college degree that brings wealth, but rather financial intelligence." Do you make enough money? Hhhmmm...interesting question, I don't think you can ever earn enough money - you will always chase that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! I believe in working towards a greater purpose and in so doing shall you be rewarded with wealth. What will you do next? I come from an entrepreneurial background. My studies and career has served as a vehicle to enhance my skills to become an iconic businessman. I am in the process of developing a business model that drives community development (paying it forward) whilst still generating a profit. So watch this space!
