Gabi Richards speaks about her experience as a recent graduate at Werksmans Real work for real clients with real needs is what awaits candidate attorneys at Werksmans. “It’s definitely not just photocopying!” says second-year candidate attorney, Gabi Richards. “Studying the law is one thing; practising it is completely different – and that’s what we’re here to learn,” she says. “It’s mentally demanding and you have to apply your mind and give of your best every day, but nobody expects you to know everything and there’s lots of support and guidance.” She says all candidate attorneys at Werksmans spend their first year in the Litigation department and their second year in Commercial. “I think it makes the transition from varsity easier because most graduates are more familiar with Litigation, whereas Commercial, which is about business and the way business works, is a different ball game entirely.” Gabi adds that being a candidate attorney is not all work and no play. “The law is a tough career, but there are lots of rewards and we also do fun things as a firm.” She is thrilled to be an ambassador for Werksmans’ new recruitment campaign, The Candidate Challenge. “It’s a bold, exciting campaign and I’m hoping people will love it.”
